Steel Sculptures

Soon after Leaving Plymoth Art College in 1994, studying large scale metalwork, Alex set up his blacksmithing business, Red Forge working with steel.

Using techniques used for cutting steel plate and an oxy-propane cutting torch, he devised this particularly dangerous and very limited in its control, method of sculpting solid steel blocks.

This series of sculptures have been exhibited and sold through galleries and art fairs and have also been used for adverts and prizes.

Alex stopped using this technique in the late 1990’s, and has only revisited it a few times to produce one off sculptures such as a portrait of Mr Howard (The teacher).
